WATCH | Shipping Container Filled With Fireworks Caught Fire In Verulam CBD, KZN

A shipping container loaded with fireworks caught alight in the Verulam Central Business District (CBD), KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance after thick smoke was observed billowing from the container. Shortly afterwards, the fireworks stored inside began detonating.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene and were actively working to extinguish the blaze at approximately 15:03. The container is located close to a business complex, raising safety concerns for nearby premises and members of the public.

Verulam Fireworks Incident Prompts Emergency Response

Metro Police officers were deployed to the area and requested the closure of a section of the road as a precautionary measure to protect motorists and pedestrians.

Emergency services remain on site while the situation is brought under control. The eruptions from the container were visible from surrounding areas, drawing the attention of residents and business owners in the CBD.

At this stage, the cause of the fire has not been established, and investigations are expected to follow once the scene is declared safe.
