Shibiri Slams Musa Khawula Claims At Madlanga Commission: “I Don’t Know Chommie!”

Suspended Gauteng Crime Intelligence head, Major-General Richard Shibiri, has firmly denied knowing controversial celebrity basher Musa Khawula.
Appearing under oath before the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday, Shibiri rejected claims that he had any dealings with Khawula.
Shibiri Denies Any Link to Musa Khawula
“I do not know Khawula personally and have never engaged with him in any professional or personal capacity,” he testified.
The commission is probing allegations surrounding Gauteng Crime Intelligence operations, with particular focus on purported communications between senior officers and external figures.

The inquiry was told that WhatsApp exchanges appeared to show Shibiri communicating with Khawula and allegedly telling him not to publish stories about underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Witness F informed the commission that Shibiri later circulated screenshots of the alleged exchanges. However, under questioning, Witness F acknowledged he could not independently verify whether Shibiri had directly instructed Khawula to halt publication. He said his understanding was based on directions passed down through the chain of command.

Shibiri dismissed the allegations outright, describing suggestions of coordination or inappropriate engagement as “incorrect”.
He also clarified that information sent to Sergeant Fannie Nkosi was limited to advising that a complainant should pursue legal remedies through established policing channels.
Disputed Arrest Warrant Claims Involving Shadrack Sibiya
Further testimony linked operational instructions to suspended deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya. According to the commission, Witness F alleged that Sibiya directed that Khawula’s arrest warrant be shared with Matlala.
Sibiya has denied issuing any such instruction.
As the inquiry continues, the testimony has highlighted sharp contradictions between witnesses and senior police officials, with central claims remaining strongly contested.
