Sheriff Hunts Down Somizi’s Company After Workers Go Unpaid — Offices Found Empty!

Media personality Somizi Mhlongo is once again making headlines — this time, for all the wrong reasons. His company, Search Light (Pty) Ltd, is under fire after allegedly failing to pay its employees, prompting the sheriff to take action.

According to Hotellica union representative Thabiso Putswe, the sheriff made three separate visits to the company’s former offices in Sandton but came up empty-handed.

“They used to operate from Sandton, but it looks like they’ve moved out. The sheriff went there three times and found no one. We later received information that they now work from home,” said Putswe.

Court documents from the Randburg Magistrate’s Court confirm that the enforcement order couldn’t be carried out since “the respondent has no movable goods at the given address,” as reported by a building receptionist.

The sheriff’s failed visits took place on September 22, 23, and 29, and by the third attempt, a sign confirmed the office had been vacated.

Workers Still Waiting for Their Salaries

The dispute dates back to April 2025, when several employees accused Somizi and his business partners of unfair dismissal. The workers alleged they were let go without any notice or disciplinary hearings.

“We were unfairly dismissed in April this year without any warning or hearing. We took the matter to the CCMA, which ruled in our favour for April, May, and June salaries,” said one of the affected workers.

Despite a CCMA ruling in their favour, Search Light reportedly failed to pay the outstanding wages. This led to an enforcement order authorizing the sheriff to attach and auction the company’s movable assets to recover R165,402.62, plus interest.

Somizi Distances Himself from the Drama

Somizi Mhlongo and Lindo Maleho are listed as directors of Search Light (Pty) Ltd, a cleaning services company that supplied staff to Transnet at the Carlton Centre.

While the sheriff and union scramble to track down assets — and possibly the company’s current base — Somizi has publicly brushed off any link to the firm.

When the matter first came to light in July, the entertainer posted on Instagram: “I just found out I own a company I never had. Mzansi for sho.”

For now, the sheriff’s chase continues — and the former employees are still waiting for their pay.
