No Bail, No Freedom! Shebeshxt’s Appeal Crushed By High Court — Rapper Staying Behind Bars

Polokwane said NOPE — and this time, it was final. Controversial Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke has officially lost his bail appeal, with the Polokwane High Court dismissing his application on Friday, 9 January 2026. And just like that, hopes of an early release went up in smoke.

Bail Appeal Shut Down — Court Was Not Convinced

Shebeshxt’s bail woes date back to December 17, 2025, when the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court initially denied him bail. The court ruled that there was a high likelihood he could commit similar offences if released, especially since many of the alleged incidents reportedly happened during his performances.

Fast-forward to today, and the High Court agreed — word for word, bar for bar.

In her ruling, Acting Judge AJ Burnett didn’t mince her words, stressing that Schedule 6 offences are no joke and that accused persons carry a heavy burden when applying for bail.

“The appellant has simply not met the challenge of proving exceptional circumstances. I accordingly find that the learned magistrate did exercise his discretion correctly,” she ruled.

Translation? You’re not going anywhere, my guy.

Shebeshxt’s Charges Are Heavy

For those who forgot why this case shook Mzansi — here’s a reminder.

Shebeshxt was arrested in November 2025 and is facing nine serious charges, including: three counts of attempted murder. One of the most alarming allegations stems from an incident in Ladanna in October, where Shebeshxt is accused of shooting and wounding a fan.

These allegations played a central role in the court’s decision, with concerns raised about public safety should he be released.

For now, Shebeshxt will remain in custody, with no bail granted. His matter is expected to return to the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on 18 February 2026, where the case will continue.
