Shadrack Sibiya Vanishes! Top Cop Allegedly Pulled Sick Note To Dodge Damning Commission Testimony

SAPS Deputy National Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, has pulled out of his scheduled appearance at the Madlanga Commission — citing illness.

Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed to SurgeZirc SA that Sibiya, who was due to testify on Thursday, contacted the commission to say he was unwell and unable to attend.

“Sibiya was served with a subpoena to appear before the commission this Thursday, December 4. He has called in sick… So of course his testimony will have to stand over until next year, 2026, because this is the last week of the commission’s hearings,” Michaels said.

He added that Sibiya had already been served with a Rule 3 notice alerting him to serious allegations levelled against him.

Several witnesses have placed Sibiya at the centre of the controversial disbandment of the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Testimony before the commission alleges Sibiya pushed for the unit to be shut down and ordered that all PKTT dockets be transferred to his office.

Around 121 dockets were reportedly moved under his instruction — only to be quietly returned to KZN months later. Witnesses told the commission the files sat untouched at the national office, with no clarity on what happened during that time.

Shadrack Sibiya’s Alleged Ties to Powerful Figures Under Scrutiny

The inquiry has also heard unsettling allegations linking Sibiya to influential criminal figures, including Gauteng businessman Vusimuzi “CAT” Matlala and alleged underworld operator Katiso “KT” Molefe.

Last month, Witness C testified that Matlala allegedly sent cash to Sibiya through Sergeant F. Nkosi, a police officer under Sibiya’s command.

The witness claimed Matlala delivered “bundles of cash” to Nkosi, who then allegedly passed the money on to Sibiya — payments described as routine, informal, and undisclosed.

The commission, together with Sibiya’s legal representatives, is expected to set a new date for his testimony in 2026.

Sibiya has denied all wrongdoing, dismissing claims of involvement with criminals or interference in the PKTT.
