Shadrack Sibiya Bail Bid: Wife Says Complainant’s Father Wanted To Withdraw Charges
izakele Dlamini says the father of the 16-year-old at the centre of the grooming allegations repeatedly sought contact with the family and proposed withdrawing the case.

The wife of suspended deputy national police commissioner Lt-Gen Shadrack Sibiya has told the court that the father of the complainant wanted to meet the family and withdraw the charges against her husband. The Shadrack Sibiya bail hearing continued in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, where his legal team relied on Sizakele Dlamini’s affidavit. Sibiya faces allegations including rape, human trafficking and sexual grooming.
Shadrack Sibiya Bail Hearing Hears Wife’s Account Of Contact
During the Shadrack Sibiya bail hearing, Dlamini’s affidavit was submitted after the state alleged that her husband had attempted to intimidate or influence “Mr M”, whose 16-year-old child is central to the grooming allegations.
Dlamini said she had received calls and messages from both Mr M and a church figure known as “the apostle”. She said the contact from Mr M was not initiated by her family.

Dlamini stated that on 23 September she spoke to the apostle, an assistant pastor at ECG Church who had provided counselling to the family for about six months.
According to her affidavit, the pastor told her that Mr M wanted to visit her home to discuss Sibiya’s arrest and was prepared to withdraw the case. She said the apostle explained that Mr M had raised the idea himself because he was unsure how the proposal would be received.
“The apostle informed me that the idea originated from Mr M, and that he had not wished to initiate the discussion himself as he did not know how it would be received,” the affidavit read.
Dlamini said she asked why Mr M wanted to withdraw the charges and was told that he had been troubled after seeing Sibiya crying in court. She further alleged that the apostle said Mr M was uncomfortable after certain people encouraged him to “give the guy to them”. Dlamini said she feared the proposed meeting could be a setup and declined to engage with Mr M.
Shadrack Sibiya Case: Wife Rejects Proposed Meeting
The Shadrack Sibiya case affidavit states that the apostle visited Dlamini’s home the following day, 24 September, for a prayer session with the family. Dlamini said the pastor again raised Mr M’s alleged wish to meet the family and withdraw the charges.
She claimed the apostle also said Mr M felt pressured by individuals identified as “Mr Khumalo” and “Mkhwanazi” to provide more information about Sibiya.

Dlamini said she again rejected the proposal and told the apostle that her family had no interest in meeting Mr M. She said they advised him to continue with the case instead and that no further discussions were held with the pastor about the matter. Dlamini also insisted that neither she nor other members of the family had asked the apostle to contact Mr M.
“Neither I nor any member of the family at any stage requested or instructed the apostle to make contact with Mr M or any other person linked to the matter,” Dlamini stated.
She also addressed the relationship between Sibiya and Mr M in her affidavit. Dlamini said Mr M had never been employed by Sibiya and was known to her only as a friend of her husband. Her account was presented to the court as part of the defence’s response to allegations that Sibiya had attempted to influence the complainant’s father.
Shadrack Sibiya Defence Presents Further Affidavit
The Shadrack Sibiya defence also relied on Dlamini’s account of a later contact with Mr M. She said that at about 11pm on 24 September, she missed a call from him while she was taking a shower. After seeing the missed call, she called Sibiya’s mother into the room so that the conversation could be recorded before she returned the call.
According to the affidavit, Mr M asked Dlamini whether she recognised his voice, which she confirmed. She said he explained why he had laid the charges and confirmed that he had contacted the apostle to arrange a meeting with the family. Dlamini said she again told him that she had no interest in meeting him.
On 2 October, Dlamini said Mr M sent her several WhatsApp messages, including a lengthy text, two images and a voice note. She said the messages reflected his frustration over the way Sibiya’s defence was presenting him in court. Dlamini said she interpreted the messages as threatening, blocked Mr M’s number and ended further communication.
“This is entirely inconsistent with any suggestion that the applicant and his family sought to approach, influence, or exert pressure upon him,” she maintained.
The court was also presented with an affidavit from Victor Monamodi, Sibiya’s cousin, which reportedly corroborates Dlamini’s account. The bail proceedings have been postponed to Tuesday for further hearing. Sibiya remains before the court while his application for bail continues.
