Former deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is expected to learn on Tuesday whether he will be granted bail after three weeks of arguments between the State and his defence.
The 59-year-old faces allegations of raping an 18-year-old woman and sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl. Sibiya has denied the allegations, and he has since resigned from the South African Police Service (SAPS).

During the proceedings, Sibiya maintained that the allegations against him were unfounded, disputing claims that he raped the 18-year-old woman and sexually groomed the younger complainant. The court has heard arguments from both the State and the defence before reaching its decision.
Shadrack Sibiya Denies Rape And Sexual Grooming Allegations
Evidence presented during the Shadrack Sibiya bail hearing included allegations that he sent sexually explicit videos to the 16-year-old girl. Sibiya denied sexually grooming the teenager but confirmed that he had sexual intercourse with the 18-year-old woman, insisting that it was consensual. Prosecutor Velile Makasana argued that the evidence presented by the State supported a different account of events.
“There is evidence that there was a clear build-up plan to the ultimate rape.”
The Shadrack Sibiya bail judgment will determine whether the former senior police officer can leave custody while his criminal case proceeds. His resignation from SAPS followed disciplinary proceedings against him, bringing his employment with the police service to an end. The bail decision is separate from the criminal proceedings, and the allegations against him have not been established through a trial.
