Seputla Sebogodi’s Widow And Family Fight Over His Final Resting Place

The funeral arrangements for veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi have been overshadowed by a disagreement over where he should be laid to rest.
The dispute centres on his widow, Machuene Rosina Semenya, and some of the actor’s relatives. Sebogodi died last week at the age of 63 after complications linked to diabetes.
His memorial services will be held on Thursday, 23 July, at the State Theatre in Pretoria and on Friday at Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane. His funeral service is scheduled for Saturday at Jack Botes Hall. He is then expected to be buried at Silicon Cemetery.
Seputla Sebogodi Burial Dispute Divides Family
The planned burial has become the source of a growing disagreement within Seputla Sebogodi’s family. Machuene Rosina Semenya, who married the acclaimed actor in February this year, has organised the memorial and funeral arrangements.
She is a former politician who previously served as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
However, some of Sebogodi’s siblings believe he should instead be buried at his ancestral home in Ga-Mothapo. They say that is where other members of the family have been laid to rest.
Seputla Sebogodi’s sister, Mary Kau, told Africa Daily: “I want him to be buried here in Ga-Mothapo and not in Silicon. That’s where his family members are buried. Those who say his memorial services should be at Jack Botes Hall and he should be laid to rest in Silicon, I don’t know them.”
