Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial: Accused 4 Maphisa Fights To Have Charges Dropped

Accused 4 in the high-profile Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, is challenging the State’s case against him. He argues that prosecutors have failed to provide evidence linking him to the Bafana Bafana captain’s tragic killing in 2014.

Meyiwa was fatally shot at the home of his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, sparking years of speculation and public outcry. While the State maintains it was a planned hit allegedly orchestrated by Khumalo, Maphisa insists he had no role in the crime.

Section 174 Discharge at the Center of Legal Battle

Maphisa has applied for a Section 174 discharge, a legal mechanism allowing the court to dismiss charges if the State has not made a strong enough case. His legal team argues that the evidence presented so far falls short of proving his involvement.

“The State has failed to link me to the murder of Senzo Meyiwa,” Maphisa maintains.
