Senior Maruleng Municipality Official Arrested For R700,000 Fraud In Limpopo

A senior official at Maruleng Municipality in Hoedspruit, Limpopo, has been arrested by the Hawks for alleged fraud and breaches of the Municipal Finance Management Act.
Hawks Spokesperson Lethunya Mmuroa confirmed that the suspect’s alleged offences date back to 2015, during their tenure as acting municipal manager at Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality.
Alleged Payment of R700,000 for Non-Existent Services
According to Mmuroa, the official is accused of authorising payments exceeding R700,000 to a service provider who did not deliver any services.
“The alleged fraudulent activities were committed in 2015 when the suspect was an acting municipal manager in the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality,” Mmuroa stated.

The suspect is expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face the charges. Investigations are ongoing.
