Security Guard Arrested For Killing Suspected Copper Thief

A 59-year-old security guard has been arrested for murder following a fatal shooting in Vredefort, Free State, on Friday morning.
According to police spokesperson Captain (insert if known), officers responded to a shooting complaint on Turten Street at around 05:15, where they found the body of a 53-year-old man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.
Murder Charge Follows Security Guard’s Deadly Struggle
The suspect, who works for a private security company, allegedly confronted the deceased for stealing copper. Police say a struggle ensued, during which the suspect claimed the man tried to disarm him — leading to the fatal shooting.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was also employed by another security company, though it remains unclear whether he was on duty at the time of the incident.
Suspect to Appear in Court
The 59-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and is expected to appear before the Vredefort Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
