Second Teenager Arrested In Philippi Attack On Members Of Parliament

Western Cape serious and violent crime detectives have arrested a second suspect following the attack on three Members of Parliament (MPs) in Philippi on Tuesday afternoon.

The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended in Browns Farm during the early hours of Wednesday morning after detectives worked through the night. Police confirmed that he has since been formally charged.

First Suspect Shot During Failed Attack

The first suspect, an 18-year-old male, was arrested on Tuesday evening after seeking medical attention at a healthcare facility in Lentegeur. Authorities believe he was shot when one of the MPs’ vehicle occupants returned fire during the attack. He remains in hospital under police guard.

According to initial reports, three suspects were involved in the attempted hijacking. Police continue to follow leads and anticipate another arrest soon.

Charges of Attempted Murder and Hijacking

Both suspects face serious charges, including attempted murder and attempted hijacking. Investigators remain on high alert as they work to track down the third suspect.

Police have assured the public that the investigation is progressing and further arrests are expected.
