Second Bail Denied For Suspects In AKA And Tibz Murder Case

The Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday denied a renewed bail application by two of the men accused of the high-profile murders of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni and Lindokuhle Ndimande sought bail on the grounds that their families were suffering financially and emotionally due to their incarceration. They argued that with the State’s investigation concluded, there was no reason to keep them in custody, and they pledged not to interfere with witnesses.

Court’s Bail Decision

Magistrate Vincent Hlatshwayo dismissed the application, citing insufficient new evidence to warrant bail.

“The facts presented before me were not new,” Hlatshwayo stated. “Accused one has previously interfered with witnesses, and there is no convincing argument that this behaviour would not be repeated.”

Extradition and Accusations

The accused also referenced the Ndimande brothers, Siyabonga Gezani and Malusi Dave, who are reportedly implicated in the murders but remain in Eswatini, resisting extradition to South Africa.

Gwabeni and Ndimande, along with Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande, face multiple charges, including:

• Conspiracy to commit murder
• Murder
• Unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition
• Five counts of attempted murder
• Money laundering

The State alleges that Gwabeni orchestrated the hit, receiving an R800,000 payment and distributing funds to his co-accused.

The brutal murders of AKA and Tibz in February 2023 outside a Durban restaurant sent terror across the nation. AKA was a beloved South African rapper, and Tibz was a renowned chef and entrepreneur.

While Gwabeni and his co-accused remain in custody, the case continues to draw public attention as the extradition process for other implicated individuals unfolds.

The court’s decision reinforces the seriousness with which the justice system is handling the case, ensuring accountability and a fair trial for the victims’ families.
