Second Arrest In Wegdraai Axe Murder: Suspect Apprehended Fleeing To Zimbabwe

Police have captured a second suspect in connection with the brutal axe attack that left one man dead and a woman severely injured in Wegdraai Village on Monday, September 1, 2025.
The 51-year-old suspect, who had been evading authorities, was arrested in the Alldays policing area at approximately 21:00 after a targeted manhunt.
Authorities located the suspect hiding in a truck that was headed directly towards the Zimbabwe border. The discovery thwarted his attempted escape from the country.

Upon intercepting the vehicle, officers found the suspect carrying a bag of clothes, confirming his intention to flee South Africa.
A further investigation revealed that, like his 20-year-old brother who was previously arrested, the 51-year-old man was also in the country illegally, contravening the Immigration Act.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear before the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. They will face a series of serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and the contravention of the Immigration Act.

The arrests bring a measure of relief to the community following the violent attack that claimed the life of a 55-year-old South African man and left a 38-year-old South African woman with severe injuries.
