Tragic Death Of Seattle 14-Year-Old Teen Sparks Outrage

Denaya Young, a Seattle mother, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after allegedly beating her 14-year-old son to death with an extension cord for failing to do his chores. The incident occurred on January 30 in the victim’s family home, which also housed his three siblings and stepfather.

Arrest And Confession

According to court documents and police reports, the Washington State woman, 29, became upset when she discovered her son had not cleaned the kitchen or carried out his other chores. She admitted to police that she “went too far” in disciplining him, saying she “lost count” of how many times she hit him with the cord.

Young told the police “…I just kept swinging the (HDMI) chord, I should have listened, but I kept saying you’re gonna stand up and do your chores and he was like Mom I’m dizzy, I can’t do it, and I thought he was faking”.

Injuries

The 14-year-old, received an unbelievable 1,172 injuries on his body, including marks, cuts, and bruises on his head, neck, ears, chest, arms, and legs.

The medical examiner ruled that the cause of death was Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome, also known as distributive shock, a condition in which the body sends too much blood to multiple injuries, overwhelming the heart. Young apparently waited five minutes before calling 911 (U.S emergency number) after her son stopped breathing.

It was said her son was found unconscious and was later declared dead at a local hospital.

Court Proceedings

According to police, the teen’s three siblings and stepfather were home at the time of the alleged deadly beating.

Young is now being held in King County Jail under a $3 million bail (over R55 million). During a bail hearing, her public defender Zelena Jones, argued for her release, noting the pain she suffered after losing her son.

“I know of the seriousness of these facts, but this also involves a mother losing her son and the significant trauma she is experiencing from that.

“I will also argue there would be additional trauma on top of that if she is incarcerated. Given her limited history, the fact it appears she cooperated with law enforcement, and the fact that she has very limited resources, she should be released,” Jones was quoted as saying.

However, the judge sided with the prosecutors.

Outrage

This terrible case sparked outrage and grief in the community, stressing the risks of severe discipline and the importance of dealing with anger management issues.
