School Drug Scandal: Two Shop Workers Nabbed After Pupils Found Smoking Cannabis Vapes

Two shop workers have been arrested after police uncovered a shocking drug operation allegedly selling cannabis-laced vape products to schoolchildren.

The arrests came after learners at a local White River school were caught in possession of vape pipes filled with cannabis — sparking chaos during exam time as some pupils reportedly “lost focus” and displayed “strange behaviour.”

Police swoop after tip-off from school

Concerned teachers alerted authorities, leading to a joint operation between the White River K9 Unit and Provincial Organised Crime Investigation detectives.

Undercover officers visited the store — located at 21 William Street, White River — and successfully bought cannabis products, confirming suspicions of illegal activity.

A raid followed, resulting in the arrest of two employees and the seizure of cannabis-infused sweets, vape juice, chocolates, lollipops, cola, and dagga plants valued at roughly R2.3 million.

The shop had only opened its doors on 1 November 2025, just days before the bust.

Schoolchildren targeted in growing vape trade

Police believe the business was specifically targeting schoolchildren, exploiting the rise of flavoured vape products to disguise cannabis content.

The suspects are expected to appear in the White River Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, 13 November 2025, on charges of dealing in drugs.

The SAPS praised the bravery of school staff and law enforcement, saying the swift response prevented further harm.

“Removing drugs from our schools and communities remains a top priority,” said a police spokesperson.
