Scandal! Star Sivenathi Mabuya Finally Becomes A Mom After 12-Year Love Story

It’s a season of joy for actress Sivenathi Mabuya, who has officially stepped into motherhood! The former Scandal! star revealed that she and her husband, Aphiwe Bukani, have welcomed their first child together.

Reflecting on the past few weeks, Mabuya shared, “September has been the toughest and most rewarding month of my life.”

The exciting news was met with an outpouring of love from her industry friends, including Scandal! co-star Mapaseka Koetle and fellow stars Dineo Moeketsi and Natasha Thahane, who all sent their warm congratulations.

Fans first got a glimpse of Mabuya’s pregnancy journey in June 2025 when she joyfully announced, “Bump’s out the bag… thank you for your kindness. We couldn’t be happier.”

Her love story with Aphiwe Bukani is just as heartwarming. The two first crossed paths at Hemingways Mall in the Eastern Cape back in 2008, when he offered her and her sisters a lift home. Though he asked her out for ice cream soon after, she only agreed—wait for it—12 years later.

“He was patient enough to wait 12 years for that ice cream date he asked for back in 2008,” Sivenathi revealed with a smile.

After years of friendship and finally love, the couple tied the knot in January 2022 with a traditional wedding following lobola negotiations, surrounded by their loved ones.

Speaking on marriage at the time, Mabuya said, “I guess it should be when you really love someone. But deciding to get into it and begin it are two different things. Can’t say my decision was easy but it is definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

Best known for her role as Xolile Medupe in Scandal!, Mabuya stepped away from the telenovela in 2021 but hasn’t completely closed the door on a comeback.
