SAPS And Community Crack Down On Crime, Immigration Act Violators And GBVF

District women, in collaboration with external stakeholders, spearheaded #OperationBasadi on Friday, 29 August 2025, conducting a roadblock on the N2 near Kei Bridge.

During the operation, two men, aged 34 and 38, were arrested for violating the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. Traffic Officers assisted by issuing fines totalling R52 300 to motorists who failed to comply with road regulations.

“This operation demonstrates our commitment to maintaining law and order while ensuring compliance with traffic laws,” said a local SAPS spokesperson.

SAPS Door-to-Door Campaigns Promote Awareness on GBVF and Community Safety

Beyond the roadblock, the team visited nearby villages to conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns, distributing pamphlets on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), sexual offences, and crimes against the elderly.

Residents were informed about safety measures, reporting channels, and community support resources, strengthening local awareness and participation in crime prevention.

The operation also included stop-and-search procedures and inspections of local liquor outlets. Two outlets were shut down, liquor was confiscated, and the owners, aged 25 and 35, were arrested for non-compliance.

“The success of #OperationBasadi reaffirms SAPS’ dedication to protecting all South Africans and tackling threats to community well-being,” the spokesperson added.
