Sandton Raid: Chemicals And Drugs Worth R1.5M Seized

Gauteng police have uncovered a suspected drug manufacturing site in Sandton, seizing chemicals, specialised equipment and suspected narcotics valued at approximately R1.5 million.

The operation, carried out on Sunday morning, followed intelligence that led officers to a property on Rembrandt Avenue. Authorities confirmed that no suspects were found at the scene during the raid.

Intelligence-Led Operation Leads Police to Sandton Drug Lab

Members of the Organised Crime Unit executed the operation after receiving specific intelligence about possible illegal activity at the property.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that officers discovered a range of items linked to drug production.

“The team operationalised intelligence information which led them to a house where they found chemicals, equipment and end product suspected to be drugs,” said Nevhuhulwi.

She added: “No one was found in the house.”

Authorities estimate the value of the confiscated materials, including suspected finished drug products, at around R1.5 million.

The find highlights ongoing concerns around illicit drug manufacturing operations operating within residential areas.

A criminal case relating to the manufacturing of suspected drugs has since been opened as investigations continue.

Nevhuhulwi emphasised that law enforcement remains focused on tackling drug-related offences across the province.

“The police in Gauteng are committed to fight crime and will continue to crack down on drugs and illicit manufacturing,” she said.

Investigators are now working to trace those responsible for the operation and determine the full scope of the suspected drug lab.
