SANDF Soldier Gunned Down In Delft, Suspects On The Run

An off-duty SANDF member has been shot dead in Cape Town just weeks into their deployment for the control of gang violence.

Police in Delft South responded to reports of gunfire on Kokaboom Street late on Wednesday night, 8 April 2026.

According to South African Police Service (SAPS), officers arrived at the scene at approximately 22:20, where they discovered a 37-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel declared the victim dead at the scene.

Victim Confirmed as Off-Duty SANDF Member

Preliminary investigations have confirmed that the deceased was a member of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and was off duty at the time of the incident.

Authorities have clarified that the killing is not linked to Operation Prosper.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown, with investigators working to piece together the events leading up to the fatal attack.

Police Hunt Suspects as Murder Investigation Intensifies

The suspect or suspects fled the scene shortly after the shooting and have not yet been arrested.

Detectives based in Delft have since opened a murder case and are continuing their investigation.
