Brigadier-General Prince Mkhabela, alongside his secretary Thembi Hlungwani and his legal representative Athinandavha Mulaudzi, made their first appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.
The trio are facing charges of corruption and defeating the administration of justice linked to an alleged payment intended to halt a separate criminal case.
SANDF Officer R1.5m Corruption Charges and Alleged Payment to Investigator
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused allegedly arranged and paid R500,000 to an investigating officer who was probing an intimidation case involving Mkhabela. The payment was allegedly intended to prevent the matter from proceeding to court.
The NPA claims that Mkhabela personally met with the investigating officer and paid R50,000 as a deposit.
The alleged payments form part of a broader case involving R1.5 million in corruption-related charges.

NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana confirmed developments following the court appearance.
“The secretary and the legal representative were each granted bail of R5 000. The matter was postponed to the 23rd of February 2026 for bail judgment in respect of the Brigadier General.”
