Samora Machel Shooting: Western Cape Police Condemn Deadly Attack That Killed Three

Western Cape police have strongly condemned a weekend shooting in Samora Machel that resulted in the deaths of three young people.

The incident unfolded on Saturday when an unknown gunman opened fire on a group seated inside a vehicle on Oliver Tambo Drive.

Three victims, aged between 16 and 21, were declared dead at the scene, while a 19-year-old survivor was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Police confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, with investigators working to establish what led to the attack.

The victims were reportedly targeted while inside the vehicle, and no arrests have been made at this stage.

Western Cape police said the shooting has caused deep concern within the community, particularly given the young ages of those who lost their lives.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said specialised detectives are actively pursuing the case.

“Serious and Violent Crime Unit detectives are investigating a shooting incident, following up on all available leads to determine the motive and identify the suspects.”

Authorities have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward as efforts continue to trace those responsible.
