SAFA President Danny Jordaan Arrested On Fraud Charges

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan has been arrested and charged with fraud, accused of misappropriating R1.3 million of the association’s funds for personal use.

Jordaan, along with his two co-accused, SAFA chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo and journalist-turned-businessman Trevor Neethling, is set to appear in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge on Wednesday.

The Hawks confirmed that arrest warrants had been issued, and the suspects were expected to surrender themselves.

Allegations Against Danny Jordaan

In March 2024, the Hawks conducted a raid on SAFA’s offices in Nasrec, Johannesburg, seizing a laptop, external hard drives, a USB, and various documents.

It is alleged that between 2014 and 2018, Jordaan used the association’s resources for personal gain, including hiring a private security company for personal protection and a public relations company without the board’s authorisation.

The Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, stated that Jordaan’s actions violated SAFA statutes, resulting in an actual loss of R1.3 million to the association. The trial of three other individuals involved in the case is scheduled to begin next week and will continue until December 6.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident and urged parents to be more vigilant in protecting their children.
