SABC Pulls The Plug On Miss Universe Broadcast

SABC channel S3 has decided to drop the Miss Universe broadcast. They made the call on Friday, following Miss Universe South Africa, Mia le Roux, pulling out of the 2024 pageant.

Mia Le Roux, our reigning Miss South Africa, had to bow out due to health issues. The Miss South Africa organization shared the news on Friday morning, saying that Mia needs to focus on getting better. With her stepping down, it means no Mzansi representation at this year’s Miss Universe.

SABC 3’s Announcement

SABC’s S3 channel confirmed that they won’t be airing the pageant this year. “The channel will no longer broadcast this year’s Miss Universe contest on Sunday, the 17th of November 2024,” they announced.

Mia thanked all South Africans for the support she received during her Miss Universe journey. She expressed how tough it was to make this decision, knowing how many people had placed their dreams and hopes on her. “I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength,” she said.

Mia was crowned Miss South Africa at the 66th pageant finale held at the SunBet Arena at Time Square in Pretoria back in August.

Hailing from Cape Town, the 28-year-old winner shared in her acceptance speech how proud and grateful she felt for the trust South Africa placed in her. Diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one, she received a cochlear implant when she was two, allowing her to hear and pursue her dreams.
