SAA Implements Contingency Plans Amid Pilots’ Strike Over Pay Dispute

South African Airways (SAA) has announced measures to keep flights operating during a pilots’ strike set for Thursday, triggered by a pay dispute.

The SA Airways Pilots Association initially demanded a 30% wage increase, later reducing their demand to 15%. The SAA, cautioning against bankruptcy if these demands are met, has proposed an 8.4% increase retroactively to April.

Spokesperson Vimla Maistry acknowledged the unfortunate timing of the strike but assured that the airline has contingency plans in place to minimize disruptions, particularly during the busy festive season.
