SA Police Team Flies To France To Assist In Probe Of Nathi Mthethwa’s Death

A five-member team of South African police investigators is being deployed to France to assist local authorities with the probe into the death of Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa.

The team will be led by Major General Bongani Maqhashalala, Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection in the Western Cape.

Government Affirms Commitment to Transparent Investigation

Police Minister Firoz Cachalia confirmed the deployment, saying it reflects government’s commitment to uncovering the full facts surrounding the tragedy.

National Commissioner Fannie Masemola advised on the move, and the investigators will work closely with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) while liaising with their French counterparts.

According to police ministry spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi: “The deployment of these investigators reflects our commitment to ensuring that every effort is made to establish the full facts surrounding this tragedy.

“We will offer all necessary support to our counterparts in France and remain in close contact with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation throughout the process.”

The officers will help gather information, examine the circumstances around Mthethwa’s death, and ensure transparency throughout the inquest.

Minister Cachalia has also extended condolences to Mthethwa’s family, noting the importance of supporting both the family and South African authorities abroad.

The investigative team is expected to depart soon, as both South African and French authorities continue working together to establish the circumstances of the ambassador’s passing.
