Robbery Suspect Run Over During Verulam Getaway

A robbery suspect was run over while attempting to escape with stolen goods in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

The incident occurred in the Verulam CBD after a man was targeted by two thieves.

Robbery Incident On Todd Street

At around midday Tuesday, a 47-year-old male was walking along Todd Street when one suspect placed him in a choke hold.

While being held down by the first suspect,  the second thief stole his wallet containing cash and ATM cards.

After the robbery, the suspects fled on foot, making their escape in the busy area.

Suspect Pursued By Motorist

A nearby motorist, witnessing the crime, decided to pursue the robbers in his Toyota Fortuner.

After catching up to one of the suspects, the motorist ran him over.

The suspect dropped the stolen wallet but managed to flee across the R102 near the Verulam Bus Rank on Ireland Street.

Victim Declines To Press Charges

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived at the scene and spoke with the victim.

The man, who appeared intoxicated, declined to file a criminal case.

As a result, the search for the suspect was abandoned, and no injuries were reported in the incident.
