Robbers Meticulously Robs First National Bank Through Tunnel

In a bold and sophisticated robbery that has left authorities scrambling for answers, a group of unknown suspects executed a tunnel heist at the First National Bank (FNB) branch located on Victoria Street in Germiston on 22 April 2025.
According to early reports, the robbers gained access by tunneling underground from a nearby Nedbank property, bypassing street-level security entirely.

Investigators discovered significant damage to the floor of the adjacent building, which served as the suspected entry point.
The robbers breached the bank’s interior with precision and remained undetected throughout the operation.
Robbers Use Industrial Tools, Evade Surveillance

Once inside the FNB branch, the perpetrators employed industrial-grade grinders to break into two secure safes.

Law enforcement confirmed that an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen, but the exact sum remains confidential as investigations continue.
Demonstrating exceptional technical skill, the suspects successfully disabled the bank’s alarm system and CCTV surveillance before initiating the theft.

This deliberate effort to erase digital evidence delayed the bank’s response and allowed the robbers to flee without immediate detection.
Suspects Remains At Large
The Germiston South African Police Service (SAPS), along with forensic experts under the direction of Warrant Officer Sehlangu, responded promptly to the scene.
