Researchers say donning a protective face mask is a good bet when doing the sideways shuffle during the Covid-19 pandemic.
At a time when many people everywhere are confined to their homes due to Covid-19, looking for ways to stay entertained, the question is: Can I still have sex? Is it safe?
Unfortunately, it appears that all forms of in-person sexual contact carry risk for viral transmission because the virus is readily transmitted by aerosols. For that reason, citizens were advised to stop visiting, let alone bumping uglies, with anyone they have not been holed up with during the lockdown, but fact is, some people have likely been bending the rules.
If you’re one of those, a report from researchers at Harvard University recommends that you always wear a face mask, avoid kissing and “behaviours associated with the risk of fecal-oral transmission”, shower before and after the event, and even clean the scene of your rendezvous with soap or alcohol wipes.
Surprisingly, the report also points out that even those who have been holed up together with their partners are not really off the hook. Enjoying some sexy time with the person you’re cohabiting with still puts you at the risk of getting infected by the virus, as that person could have been exposed to the virus any time they’ve left home.
However, the researchers suggest that the safest way to get your rocks off is to engage in a little bit of DIY.
