Reneilwe Letsholonyane Reveals Ambition To Coach Bafana Bafana

Former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane has expressed his desire to one day coach the South African national team, Bafana Bafana. Letsholonyane, who recently left his role as AmaZulu’s reserve league coach, currently serves as the assistant coach for Amajita, the SA Under-20 team.

In an interview with SABC Sport, Letsholonyane shared his ambitions as a young coach, stating, “My goal is to become a Bafana Bafana coach in the near future. However, every journey starts somewhere, and right now, I am the assistant coach for the U20 national team.”

Letsholonyane commended Bafana Bafana for their recent achievement of winning bronze at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He acknowledged that it was one of their best tournaments, considering their previous struggles in qualifying for and progressing through knockout stages.

The former Jomo Cosmos midfielder highlighted the significance of reaching the semi-finals, stating, “For me, it’s a foundation that has been laid for us to regain our position as conquerors of Africa. No one expected Bafana Bafana to reach this stage. Now, with upcoming World Cup qualifiers, their success serves as a confidence booster and a continuation of their progress.”

Letsholonyane, who has 50 caps for Bafana Bafana, represented South Africa in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as well as the 2013 and 2015 AFCON editions. With his experience as a player and his growing coaching career, Letsholonyane is determined to contribute to the future success of the national team.
