Rebecca Malope Puts Ariel On Blast For Using Her Face Without Permission!

Legendary gospel singer Rebecca Malope is taking a stand against Procter & Gamble (P&G), the owners of Ariel washing powder, for allegedly using her image without consent or compensation.
Contract Ended in 2022, But Image Still Used
The “Zilungiseni” hitmaker revealed that her contract with P&G ended in 2022, yet her face continues to appear on Ariel’s washing powder packaging—two years later.
“I have instructed my lawyers to proceed with legal action against Procter & Gamble (P&G) for the unauthorised use of my image,” Malope stated.

Malope’s legal team sent a letter of demand to P&G last year, demanding compensation. While the company initially proposed an out-of-court settlement, things took a shady turn when they reportedly refused to sign the very agreement they suggested.
“P&G has since refused to counter-sign the settlement agreement, leaving me with no alternative but to proceed with legal action.”
Despite ongoing negotiations, Ariel products featuring Malope’s image are still being sold, further fueling her frustration.
Rebecca Malope “They Are Unduly Benefiting from My Work”
Malope, a 36-year industry veteran, says her hard-earned reputation is being exploited without her approval.
“It is unfair and unethical for this brand to benefit from my name and image without my consent.”

The South African publication reportedly reached out to P&G for comment, but received no response at the time of publishing.
From Brand Ambassador to Legal War
Back in 2016, P&G proudly unveiled Malope as an Ariel brand ambassador during Women’s Month, celebrating her influence among South African women. Now, nearly a decade later, their partnership has turned into a legal showdown.
