Ransom Paid For Safe Return Of Kidnapped 9-Year-Old Emaan Fatima

Emaan Fatima, the nine-year-old girl kidnapped while walking home from Dreamland Primary School in Buffalo Flats, East London, has been safely returned after her parents paid a ransom.

Heartbreaking Video Plea

She was snatched by unknown men in a Toyota Corolla on 4 February, and a heartbreaking video of her pleading for help surfaced online, reaching her devastated father.

Emaan’s release came as the Pakistani and local community planned a march outside her school on Wednesday morning.

Zaheer Iqbal, general secretary of the Pakistan South Africa Association East London, confirmed her safe return, saying, “Thanks to all communities who stood together. Thank God, Emaan is home safe.”

Growing Kidnapping Crisis

This incident adds to a growing kidnapping crisis in the Eastern Cape. Iqbal revealed that another child was kidnapped in Dimbaza last month and was freed after a R200,000 ransom—far less than the R1 million initially demanded.

Despite these cases, no arrests have been made, leaving the community on edge.

Emaan’s family, who own a grocery store and the school she attends, remain shaken. A family friend shared, “She was walking with her brother when she was taken. We don’t know what the kidnappers wanted from her parents.”

Authorities continue to investigate, but fears of more kidnappings persist.
