Ramaphosa Urges Youth To Join SANDF As A Career And National Calling At Armed Forces Day

President Cyril Ramaphosa has encouraged young South Africans to view the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) as more than a job — but as a meaningful vocation in service of the country.
He was addressing crowds at Armed Forces Day celebrations in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, on Saturday, where members of the defence force gathered alongside community members and dignitaries.
In his address, the president highlighted the country’s need for critical skills, calling on young people to contribute their talents in fields such as engineering, medicine, technology and military strategy in the service of the nation.
Ramaphosa Highlights SANDF Career Opportunities For South African Youth
Speaking directly to young people attending the event and those watching nationwide, Ramaphosa said the defence force offers an opportunity to shape both personal futures and the country’s trajectory.
“To the young people present here today and watching across the country, by serving your people, you build your own future, and you contribute to a better nation.”
He urged the youth to answer the call to serve with dedication and patriotism, describing participation in the SANDF as a pathway to professional growth while advancing national development.

The president stressed that the country requires highly skilled individuals across multiple disciplines to strengthen its defence capabilities and broader security framework.
Armed Forces Day In Limpopo Celebrates Soldiers’ Service And National Pride
During the Armed Forces Day event in Limpopo, Ramaphosa also paid tribute to serving soldiers for their ongoing efforts in safeguarding South Africa’s borders and supporting communities when called upon.
Addressing members of the defence force, he commended their commitment and discipline, encouraging them to continue representing the country with distinction.
