Ramaphosa Urges Stronger South Africa-Zimbabwe Trade And Agricultural Investment

President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for closer collaboration between South Africa and Zimbabwe to unlock new trade opportunities and boost regional development.
Speaking at the 115th edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show in Harare on Friday, he urged both nations’ private sectors to drive investments that would expand cross-border trade.
“Our countries stand to benefit greatly if we enhance private sector collaboration and maximize trade between South Africa and Zimbabwe,” Ramaphosa said.
Focus on Agriculture and Food Security
Highlighting agriculture as a cornerstone of economic growth, the South African president stressed the need for greater investment in seeds, irrigation schemes, and agro-processing to secure long-term food security.

He pointed out that South Africa’s agricultural journey shares many similarities with Zimbabwe’s, making it a natural area for cooperation. “We must build resilience through investments that will safeguard our region against food insecurity,” he added.
Learning From Zimbabwe’s Agricultural Model
During his visit to the agricultural show, Ramaphosa praised Zimbabwe’s efforts in transforming its farming sector. He noted that the growing participation of women and young people in small and medium-sized farming enterprises serves as an inspiring model for the region.
Agricultural transformation was also a key discussion point during the recent SADC Summit in Madagascar, where leaders explored ways to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change.
