Ramaphosa Strengthens South Africa–Malaysia Ties To Boost Trade And Investment

President Cyril Ramaphosa has concluded his official visit to Malaysia, where he engaged with top business and industry leaders in a bid to attract investment and position South Africa as a dependable economic partner.
During his visit, Ramaphosa also took part in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, which brought together influential global leaders, including US President Donald Trump.

The high-profile gathering served as a key opportunity for the South African president to highlight the country’s role as a strategic economic gateway to Africa.
South Africa was invited as a special guest to the summit, a recognition of its growing influence on the global stage. Ramaphosa used the platform to underscore the importance of building stronger economic partnerships between Africa and Southeast Asia.

Focus on Trade, Investment, and Global Partnerships
“The president also met leaders of different industries, with the aim of promoting South Africa as a reliable investment partner,” the Presidency said.
His engagements centred on advancing bilateral cooperation, fostering trade diversification, and identifying new opportunities for mutual growth.
In addition to strengthening Malaysia–South Africa relations, Ramaphosa shared insights into South Africa’s preparations to host the G20 Summit in November.
Some ASEAN members are expected to participate in the gathering of industrialised nations, which will further enhance collaboration between the two regions.
