Ramaphosa Receives Interim Report From Madlanga Commission Of Inquiry Into Police Corruption Claims

President Cyril Ramaphosa has received the interim report from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, marking a key milestone in the probe into allegations of corruption and interference within the police service.

The handover took place exactly three months after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi became the first witness to testify before the commission.

Mkhwanazi’s explosive allegations were the catalyst for the establishment of the inquiry, which is tasked with examining claims of wrongdoing and undue influence within law enforcement structures.

Madlanga Commission Inquiry Progress and Witness Testimony

Since its establishment, the commission has heard evidence from 37 witnesses, with further testimony expected when proceedings resume in the new year.

According to the commission, evidence has been presented in two distinct phases, allowing both the airing of allegations and responses from those implicated.

“The commission has heard 28 witnesses in Phase One as part of the airing, substantiation and corroboration of the allegations.

“As part of Phase Two, the commission has thus far heard 9 witnesses who have testified in reply to the allegations levelled against them and to tell their side of the story, with dozens more due to appear in 2026,” said the commission’s spokesperson Jeremy Michaels.

Interim Report Confidential as Final Findings Awaited

While the interim report has now been formally delivered to the president, it will not be released to the public.

The commission has confirmed that only the contents of its final submission will be made public once the inquiry has concluded.
