President Cyril Ramaphosa has joined the CEO-City Clean-Up Programme at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto, signalling a strong commitment to tackling urban decay.

The president is currently holding a closed-door meeting with representatives from the private sector, government officials, and civil society leaders to discuss strategies for revitalising Johannesburg’s communities.

Launched earlier this week by Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero, the initiative seeks to implement sustainable solutions to the city’s infrastructure and environmental challenges.

Ramaphosa to Lead Public Engagement and Tree-Planting at Walter Sisulu Square

Following the meeting, Ramaphosa is expected to conduct a walkabout of the square and participate in a tree-planting ceremony, demonstrating hands-on support for the clean-up efforts.

Premier spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga highlighted the significance of the President’s involvement, “We want to lead from the front in terms of showing our people what to do.”

Private Sector Collaboration Key to Urban Renewal Efforts

The CEO-City Clean-Up Programme brings together business leaders, government agencies, and community groups to tackle the root causes of urban decay.

The initiative emphasises long-term planning and cooperation to maintain clean and vibrant public spaces across Johannesburg.

Ramaphosa will also provide a media briefing later today to outline progress and next steps in the programme.
