Ramaphosa Extends Condolences To Zimbabwe And Malawi After Limpopo Bus Crash Claims 42 Lives

President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent heartfelt condolences to the nations of Zimbabwe and Malawi after a fatal bus crash claimed the lives of 42 travellers on Sunday afternoon near Louis Trichardt, Limpopo.

In a statement, the President described the tragedy as a painful loss not only for South Africa but also for its neighbouring sister states. “The incident is a tragedy both for South Africa and these sister states,” Ramaphosa said.

The passengers were reportedly travelling from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape to their home countries when the fatal crash occurred on the N1 highway.

Ramaphosa Sends Comfort and Support to Grieving Families

President Ramaphosa conveyed his sympathy to those affected, saying his thoughts — and those of the nation — are with the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. He also wished the injured passengers a full and speedy recovery.

“The President’s message is one of unity and compassion during this period of mourning,” read the statement. The tragedy has brought both sorrow and solidarity across borders as communities in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Malawi come to terms with the loss.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has dispatched a team of investigators to Limpopo to determine the cause of the crash.

President Ramaphosa noted the heartbreaking timing of the accident, which occurred during Transport Month, a period dedicated to promoting road safety and responsible driving across South Africa.

Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution as investigations into the cause of the deadly collision continue.
