Radio Presenter Arrested For Rape As Colleague Breaks Silence

A 42-year-old radio presenter is expected to appear before the Moutse Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on a charge of rape, following an alleged attack on a colleague in Walkaal, Limpopo.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community and the broadcasting sector.

Alleged Rape Reported at Walkaal RDP House

The incident allegedly took place on 26 December at an RDP house in Walkaal.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the complainant is a 39-year-old woman who works as a presenter at a local radio station.

“The victim, a 39-year-old woman who is a presenter at a local radio station, reported that she was raped by her colleague and ex-boyfriend, also a radio presenter,” Mashaba said.

Suspect Allegedly Followed Victim After Work

According to the victim, the incident occurred after she finished work and returned to the radio station to collect her belongings.

“The suspect allegedly followed her and later offered to help in carrying the belongings to her place of residence. Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly raped her,” Mashaba said.

The suspect was arrested on 30 December and appeared in court on the same day. He was remanded in custody and is expected to return to court on Thursday.

Police Issue Strong Warning on Gender-Based Violence

Limpopo acting police commissioner Major-General Jan Scheepers condemned the alleged crime and issued a stern warning.

“Violence against women and children will never be tolerated. Anyone found committing such inhumane acts will be harshly dealt with, irrespective of social standing,” Scheepers said.

Police said investigations into the matter are continuing.
