R3.6m Cocaine Shipment Bound For George Seized In Major Western Cape Police Bust

Western Cape police have intercepted a major drug consignment headed for George, confiscating six kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of R3.6 million.

The bust followed a critical tip-off alerting authorities to a truck reportedly transporting drugs from Johannesburg to George. Acting swiftly, police tracked down the vehicle and halted it along the N12 in George.

A detailed search of the truck uncovered the cocaine hidden inside the cabin, leading to the arrest of a 46-year-old suspect who is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Truck Intercepted After Tip-Off Leads to Major Cocaine Seizure

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed the discovery and arrest, noting that the narcotics were likely meant for local circulation.

Twigg said: “The drugs are believed to be transported to a drug den, and forms part of the investigation of where it came from.”

Authorities believe the swift intervention prevented millions of rands’ worth of cocaine from reaching communities in the province.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile commended the team for their decisive action.

He added, “The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile applauds the members for playing their part in confiscating the drugs before it reached the streets of the province.”
