Qwabe Twins Shine At Historic Reed Dance At King Misuzulu’s Palace

Afropop sensations Viggy and Virginia Qwabe, famously known as the Qwabe Twins, proudly embraced their cultural heritage by attending this year’s Reed Dance festival.

The duo joined hundreds of maidens on Saturday, 13 September 2025, marking a special moment as the annual Umkhosi Womhlanga was hosted at King Misuzulu’s palace in eMashobeni for the very first time.

Traditionally held at the eNyokeni palace, the festival’s move to eMashobeni made this year’s event historic.

Fans Celebrate the Qwabe Twins’ Cultural Pride

The sisters gave fans a glimpse of their day on Instagram, sharing behind-the-scenes snaps as they prepared for the ceremony and photos from the event itself.

Supporters filled the comment section with love and admiration, praising the Qwabe Twins for honoring their Zulu roots.

The pair have long been vocal about the significance of the Reed Dance in their lives. Speaking to reporters previously, they explained:

“We are motivating and showing women our age that you can be a known musician but also preserve your purity. The reed dance is very important, and it has played a pivotal role in our lives.”

As is tradition, maidens dressed in traditional attire had their purity tested before presenting reeds to the King. Addressing the gathering, King Misuzulu gave a stern reminder to men, saying:

“I can’t marry someone who is the same age as my children.”

He further encouraged young women to report any inappropriate advances from men during the ceremony.
