Pretoria Man Arrested After Allegedly Burning Colleague Alive In Akasia Office

A 44-year-old Pretoria East man has been arrested in connection with a brutal murder at a concrete company in Akasia.

Raymond Mnisi appeared briefly in court and is expected to return on Friday for bail proceedings following the death of Tshepo Edward Kabini.

Pretoria Murder Accused Allegedly Set Victim Alight In Office

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident took place on 8 May at the victim’s workplace in Akasia.

NPA regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said Mnisi allegedly arrived at the company and requested to see Kabini before the pair went into the victim’s office.

“A few minutes later, an argument allegedly broke out between them,” Mahanjana said.

“During the altercation, Mnisi allegedly left the office, went to his vehicle, and fetched a stick and a 5l container of petrol. He then allegedly returned to the office, locked the door, poured petrol over the deceased, and set him alight.”

Victim Succumbed To Injuries After Akasia Attack

The accused allegedly fled the scene shortly after the incident. Kabini’s brother, who was also at the premises, reportedly forced the office open and rushed the injured man to Dr George Mukhari Hospital for medical treatment.

Kabini later died from his injuries at the hospital. Police subsequently opened a murder case and launched an investigation into the incident.

Authorities tracked Mnisi down and arrested him at his home on 14 May.

Raymond Mnisi To Return To Court For Bail Hearing

Mnisi made a brief appearance in the magistrate’s court following his arrest. He is expected back in court on Friday when bail proceedings are set to continue.

Police investigations into the motive behind the deadly altercation are ongoing.

The shocking incident has sparked concern over violent workplace disputes and attacks in Gauteng.
