President Cyril Ramaphosa To Announce Election Date Within 15 Days

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to announce the date for the upcoming elections within the next 15 days, according to his spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya.

Magwenya made this announcement during a media briefing in Cape Town ahead of the State of the Nation Address. Ramaphosa will deliver the Sona on Thursday at the Cape Town City Hall, and Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has confirmed that all systems are ready for the event.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) recently announced that a total of 27.4 million voters have been registered for the elections.

This number includes new voters who registered during two successful registration weekends. With this in mind, Magwenya assured the public that the election date will be announced soon. He dismissed any suggestions of delays, stating that there was no specific timeline agreed upon for the announcement.

IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo stated that preparations for the elections will now commence. The commission oversees more than 23,000 voting stations across the country, with over 68,000 staff members assigned to man these stations.

However, one of the challenges the IEC faces is organising the ballot paper due to the large number of political parties and independent candidates, which exceeds 350.
