Man Who Poured Faeces On Health Worker Sentenced To 18 Months

Tshediso Mbele, a 38-year-old male patient, has been sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment after being convicted of assaulting a health worker at the Thabong Clinic last year.
Mbele, who was on parole for a previous rape conviction, also faces the remainder of his 15-year sentence, totaling six years and eight months in prison.

The assault took place in July 2024 when Mbele, dissatisfied with the speed of service during his visit, returned to the clinic the following day carrying a bucket of faeces.
He poured the excrement onto an unsuspecting health worker, causing chaos and forcing the clinic to close.

Mbele later boasted about the attack on social media, further illustrating the premeditated nature of his actions.
Parole Violation And Immediate Arrest
Mbele’s actions not only led to the assault charge but also violated his parole conditions.

He was quickly apprehended by police, who confirmed that he was already serving time for rape.
Free State health department spokesperson Mondli Mvambi emphasized the gravity of Mbele’s actions, noting that the incident was traumatic for the health worker and staff, all of whom received counseling and continued their duties with resilience.

Health MEC Commends Health Worker’s Strength
Free State Health MEC Monyatso Mahlatsi praised the health worker for her determination in seeking justice, noting the importance of protecting health workers’ rights, especially during Human Rights Month and International Women’s Day on March 8.
Mahlatsi stressed that the sentence sends a clear message against violence in health facilities, affirming that such acts will not be tolerated.
