Tragic Loss For ANC Women’s League As Member Passes Away After Elective Conference

During a media briefing on Tuesday, the ANCWL disclosed the tragic news of Sphelele Ngcobo, the Deputy Regional Secretary of the Inkosi Bhambatha Region, who lost her life in a car accident.

The fatal incident occurred on Monday, July 24, as Ngcobo was believed to be heading back home from the conference held at Nasrec, situated south of Johannesburg.

According to an official statement released by the Bhambatha Region, the accident took place around 12:30 pm while Ngcobo was going to visit her relatives in eMpangeni, between Babanango and Melmoth.

Having been part of the 8th regional executive committee elected in May 2022, Ngcobo was described as a “selfless leader” by the ANC in her home region, which has urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

The national ANC Women’s League also extended its heartfelt condolences to Ngcobo’s family, urging all members and citizens to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.

In the wake of numerous postponements and delays, President Cyril Ramaphosa praised the ANCWL for successfully hosting the conference.

The event saw the appointment of embattled former Communications Minister, Dina Pule, to a prominent position as deputy secretary-general of the women’s movement.

President Ramaphosa called upon the newly elected leadership, led by Sisisi Tolashe, to prioritize a comprehensive agenda aimed at empowering South African women across all aspects of life.
