The Democratic Alliance (DA) made a powerful statement as its members flooded the streets of Pretoria, adorned with blue umbrellas, on their way to the Union Buildings for the party’s 2024 manifesto launch.
Thousands of supporters turned out, creating a spectacle reminiscent of Hong Kong’s “Umbrella Revolution.”
The event marked the party’s determination to usher in a new era of governance and prioritise the welfare of the people.

DA leader, John Steenhuisen, took to the stage at the Union Buildings to deliver the party’s manifesto, receiving thunderous applause from the enthusiastic crowd. The manifesto outlines seven key promises that address pressing issues in South Africa.
These promises include the creation of two million new jobs, putting an end to load shedding and water shedding, and halving the rate of violent crime, including gender-based violence.
In addition, the DA aims to abolish cadre deployment and replace it with merit-based appointments, ensuring a capable state that delivers for all.
The party also aims to lift six million people out of poverty, triple the number of Grade 4 learners who can read for meaning, and ensure quality healthcare for all, regardless of economic status.
The launch of the manifesto comes ahead of the 2024 national and provincial elections, the date of which is yet to be announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The DA’s march to the Union Buildings holds symbolic importance, symbolising their determination to bring about change and bid farewell to stagnation.
