Ramaphosa Calls For Introspection Amid ANC’s Internal Struggles

Ramaphosa raised troubling questions regarding the nature of those who fill positions within the party. Are they selfless leaders devoted to the cause, or are they primarily concerned with their personal gains?

The African National Congress (ANC) has recently found itself at a critical juncture, as articulated by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He has been vocal about the pressing need for introspection within the party, identifying careerists, ill-discipline, and factionalism as the primary threats undermining its integrity and effectiveness.

For the ANC to reclaim the trust of its constituents, it must reflect on its internal dynamics and recognize that it is, in many ways, its own worst enemy.

The Impact of Leadership Choices

Ramaphosa raised troubling questions regarding the nature of those who fill positions within the party. Are they selfless leaders devoted to the cause, or are they primarily concerned with their personal gains?

“We are at a critical point as a movement, we need to take a critical look at ourselves and what must be done to reclaim the trust of our people,” he said.

“Who are the people who fill our ranks and occupy positions of leadership? Are they careerists, factionalists or are they people who want positions to line their own pockets and advance their own interests?”

Addressing the Concerns of the Citizens

According to Ramaphosa, the citizens’ message during the recent elections was clear: dissatisfaction fueled by poverty, inequality, and underdevelopment persists.

Furthermore, issues such as unemployment and crime have become critical to the political landscape.

“We must ask ourselves whether, in the face of the electoral losses, we have allowed ourselves to be ideologically disarmed. Even as the government of national unity continues its work, we must be clear that our revolutionary programme of action has not been discarded or deferred.”
