During the African National Congress (ANC) manifesto launch in Durban, President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled six priorities for the party ahead of the 2024 elections.
However, political analyst Goodenough Mashigo argues that the President’s speech was merely a repetition of what has been said before in the State of the Nation Address and the January 8 statement.

Mashigo suggests that the ANC employs this strategy because they understand that by repeating their promises, they can create a sense of familiarity and credibility among their supporters.
He points out that the ANC has a large base of supporters who are not necessarily engaged in watching the manifesto launch, and therefore, repeating their sentiments ensures that these key messages reach a wider audience.
The President’s priorities for the ANC include job creation, re-industrialisation, investing in people, and addressing the high cost of living. While these priorities are important, Mashigo argues that the ANC’s focus should be on delivering tangible results and fulfilling their promises, rather than relying solely on repetitive speeches.

Mashigo highlights that the ANC’s success in elections is not solely based on what they say, but rather on what they deliver to the people.
He mentions social grants, housing, and food parcels as examples of the tangible benefits that voters associate with the ANC. These are the factors that ultimately influence voters’ decisions and secure their support for the party.
