Political parties in Parliament are currently engaged in a heated debate over whether to close the South African embassy in Israel and expel the Israeli ambassador from the country.
The motion, tabled by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), calls for South Africa to sever diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv and shut down Israel’s embassy. A vote on the motion is scheduled for next week.

The motion has received support from the National Freedom Party (NFP), Al Jamah-ah, and the Good Party, while the Democratic Alliance (DA), the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), and the Freedom Front Plus (FFP) have rejected it.
EFF leader Julius Malema argues that opposing Israel’s “brutal system” is not anti-Semitic and that it is essential to reject the idea that criticizing Israel equates to being against Judaism or Jewish people.
He emphasizes that opposing injustice, particularly apartheid, is not an act of hatred towards a specific religion or ethnicity.
Malema further asserts that no one should manipulate religious scriptures to promote ethnic cleansing, racism, or mass murder. He condemns the Israeli government’s actions, stating that no group of people has the right to massacre others for their own gain or to seize land unlawfully.
According to Malema, the decision to sever diplomatic ties with Israel is also based on the country’s treatment of women and children. He claims that Israel has declared war on innocent civilians, including women, children, hospitals, ambulances, and journalists.
