The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has taken decisive action by suspending its Member of Parliament (MP) Sanele Zondo following serious allegations of gender-based violence.
These accusations were made by Zondo’s wife, Simenyiwe Dlomo-Zondo, on an Instagram live session held on Wednesday.
Earlier in the week, Zondo reported his wife missing and appealed to the public for assistance. The police in KwaZulu-Natal confirmed that they were investigating her disappearance.
Fortunately, Simenyiwe Dlomo-Zondo has been located and is safe, as confirmed by IFP’s national spokesperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa.
However, the relief of her being found was soon overshadowed by allegations made by Dlomo-Zondo that she had been abused by her husband.

The IFP has emphasized its commitment to combating gender-based violence and has placed Zondo on special leave from all party roles and responsibilities pending further investigations.
In an emotional Instagram live session, Simenyiwe detailed the abuse and expressed outrage at Zondo’s public portrayal of their relationship. Zondo had referred to her as his “beloved wife” in posts about her disappearance, which she contested, stating that her going missing had nothing to do with his political status.
The party has assured the public of their commitment to handling this matter with the seriousness it deserves. All IFP Youth Brigade matters will now be managed by the office of the national secretary of the IFP Youth Brigade.
In light of these allegations, the IFP has urged relevant law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation. Zondo, while on leave, is expected to address his personal and family matters. The party has consistently supported the fight against gender-based violence and advocates for women’s empowerment through its policies.
